It’s Time to Clear Out Your Garage

It’s time to clean out your garage. I know, I know, you think it’s fine as it is, even though it’s a giant junk pile and you’re parking your cars outside in the snow. You think it’s a good spot to stash stuff to get it out of the way. But guess what? That’s not what garages are for. And the pile-up is only going to get worse, and eventually you’ll run out of room entirely. And I don’t think the neighbor will want to park his car out in his driveway just so you can start storing stuff in his garage as well.

You need to set aside some time to go through all the bags and boxes and piles of stuff in your garage. Chances are, you’ll be able to get rid of most of it. Either trash it, recycle it, or donate to someone who needs it. Once you’re down to the things you want to keep, you need to consider, what do you need on hand regularly, and what are you keeping just for sentimental or official reasons? If there are things you’re keeping but never use or need, then those don’t need to be stored on hand.

The best solution for you is renting self storage units. The benefits of self storage units are many, but among them, you can store all of the items you don’t need on hand, but know that they are still safe and sound, and will be there when and if you need them. You can even store items you use more often, but not year-round, like holiday decorations, your grill, and your lawn mower, in storage units. This way, they’re not taking up precious garage space.

Back in your garage, install shelving to hold the remaining items you’re keeping in the garage. Organize and label any boxes, so you can easily find what you need. Sweep the floors, dust out the cobwebs, and voila! You have a completely clean garage, with room for one, or maybe even two cars. No more cleaning the snow off your car in the morning!
